Welcome to First Grade!
In first grade, we focus on building strong fundamentals in core subjects such as reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Our curriculum is designed to be hands-on and interactive, fostering a love for learning and encouraging curiosity. Through small group activities and personalized instruction, we ensure that each student receives the attention they need to succeed.

First Grade
Academics
Language Arts- Reading
Students are exposed to longer stories and complex words. The focus is on developing comprehension skills, learning new phonemes, and memorizing vocabulary.
Language Arts-English
First Grade students will learn about the writing process and the mechanics of good writing. Students will continue to work on the conventions of standard grammar and usage when speaking and writing. They begin to learn about the writing process as a class and create individual writing assignments.
Math
Every day, first-grade students engage in a diverse range of mathematical activities that provide hands-on experiences, opportunities for discussion, and exploration. They will cover various topics such as number and numeration, operations, computation, data and probability, measurement, geometry, and algebraic thinking.
Through the number and operations in base 10, students will extend their counting sequence and learn about place value by working with two-digit numbers. They will use place value and properties of operation for addition and subtraction. Additionally, measurement skills will teach students how to tell time.
Religion
In their Religion class, first grade students will engage in a hands-on learning approach. Throughout the course, they will study the Seasons of the Church, including the Liturgical Calendar, the Altar, the Holy Family, Church Prayers, and Church History. Additionally, they will learn how to recite the Rosary, with all students participating and making their own personal Rosaries.
Science
First-grade students study Earth Science and Life Science, learning about the features of the Earth, Sun, and Moon, as well as characteristics, environments, human behavior, animals, and plants.
Handwriting
First grade students will continue to practice and perfect printing all upper and lowercase letters.
