8th Grade Students Experience the United States Court System

On Wednesday, January 30th, the 8th graders took part in a mock trial at the United States Federal Courthouse.  Under the direction of the Honorable Harvey Schlesinger, the students conducted the trial, serving as the lawyers, witnesses, jury, and clerks.  After a question and answer session with our judge, the students were also given a presentation by a U.S. Marshal. Students learned about the role of the marshals and saw tools they use in their job. After being released from the demonstration of handcuffs, the student remarked that he hoped it would be his last time wearing them.  The field trip gave the 8th graders an opportunity to witness firsthand our judicial system in action.
