Making Catholic Education Accessible: Scholarships for an Affordable Education for All
As part of our effort to ensure that Catholic education is affordable and available to everyone, San Jose Catholic School participates in two of Florida’s publicly funded, private choice programs:
- Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) open to children 4 years old by September 1st of the incoming year
- Step Up for Students including:
- Family Empowerment Scholarship – Educational Options (FES-EO)
- Family Empowerment Scholarship – Unique Abilities (FES-UA)
- Florida Tax Credit Scholarship (FTC)
Families may apply for additional aid through FACTS Grant & Aid.

Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK)
Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) is a free education program that prepares early learners for success in kindergarten and beyond. The program helps build a strong foundation for school using educational materials that are geared to various stages in a child’s development.
Children must be 4 years old on or before September 1st of the current school year to be eligible
Step Up for Students
San Jose Catholic School accepts three state sponsored scholarships administered through Step Up for Students.
- Family Empowerment Scholarship – Educational Options (FES-EO)
- Family Empowerment Scholarship – Unique Abilities (FES-UA)
- Florida Tax Credit Scholarship (FTC)
Families interested in applying for a state scholarship should visit StepUpForStudents.com for qualification information and application.
Families awarded a scholarship through Step Up for Students will be responsible for any fees and tuition and that the awarded amount does not cover.
A parental-placed private school student with a disability does not have the individual right to receive some or all of the special education and related services that the student would receive if enrolled in a public school under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), as amended.
